Alternative Transportation: Bicycle Storage & Changing Rooms

LEED 2.2 Requirements:

For commercial or institutional buildings, provide secure bicycle racks and/or storage (within 200 yards of a building entrance) for 5% or more of all building users (measured at peak periods), AND, provide shower and changing facilities in the building, or within 200 yards of a building entrance, for 0.5% of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) occupants.

OR

For residential buildings, provide covered storage facilities for securing bicycles for 15% or more of building occupants in lieu of changing/shower facilities.

Submittals (DESIGN):

  • Provide project drawings to show the location of bicycle racks and/or storage areas and shower/changing facilities (as applicable).

In addition, please provide the following project data and calculation information based on the project type:

Non-Residential Buildings:

  • Provide the FTE occupancy and Peak Period Transient (Student / Visitor/Customer) occupancy for the project.
  • Confirm the quantity of bicycle storage spaces provided, their distance from the building entry (in yards), and if they are secure.
  • Confirm the quantity of shower/changing facilities and their distance from the building entry (in yards).

Residential Buildings:

  • Provide the number of Residential Dwelling Units and residential FTE occupancy for the project.
  • Confirm the quantity of bicycle storage spaces provided, their distance from the building entry (in yards), and if they are covered.

Mixed Non-Residential and Residential Buildings:

  • Provide all items required of both Non-Residential and Residential Buildings.

AND (For Projects With Special Circumstances)

  • Provide an optional narrative to describe any additional comments or notes regarding special circumstances or considerations regarding the project's credit approach.
