SB 12, SB 541, HB 4, HB 3070 and HB 3693 HAVE ALL PASSED!
The 80th Texas Legislative session ended Monday, May 28, 2007. It was a whirlwind several months - 140 days to be precise - with a record 6,198 bills being filed. The Advocacy Committee* of the South Central Regional Council began tracking bills related to green building, energy efficiency, and water conservation early in the session. Not an easy task, given the sheer number of bills to review coupled with the fact many on the Advocacy Committee were new to the Legislative process. The Committee quickly learned that some things move very quickly in the Capitol City, and several times folks from Austin and San Antonio were called upon last minute to go testify on behalf of a bill. There were also many last minute calls to our membership to show their support. The Central Texas - Balcones Chapter would like to thank everyone who responded to our Legislative Alerts over the past few months. Whether by mail, email, fax, or phone, many of you rallied to show your support for a variety of bills that promoted Green Building, Energy Efficiency, and Water Conservation. Quite a few of these bills successfully passed, including SB 12, SB 541, HB 4, HB 3070 and HB 3693. Plus many of the strong features from bills that did not make it were incorporated into these and other bills by amendment. See below for the final results of the bills that you were asked to support.
