REGIONAL REPRESENTIVES
South Central Regional Council

The rapid growth and establishment of Chapters across the U.S. prompted the U.S. Green Building Council to create a new mechanism for communication. In 2005, Chapters within the USGBC self organized into eight regions enabling the chapters to work together more effectively and speak with a unified voice. Our Chapter is part of the South Central Regional Council (SCRC), which includes a total of five chapters from Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. The purpose of the SCRC is to improve communication between Chapters, provide support and share best practices and resources.

Our Regional Council consists of a group of representatives elected from the Chapters that make up the SCRC; Two representatives are chosen from each Chapter. Each Regional Council also elects a representative from their region to serve as a National Board Member.  The Central Texas-Balcones representatives are James Andrews, who serves as the Board representative, and Kathy Zarsky, who is the at-large member representative. The National Board Member is Robert Harris.

The Council meets monthly via conference call and attends three face-to-face meetings per year. For more information on the Regional Council please feel free to contact James Andrews.

Finance Task Team

The Finance Task Team's aim is to create a fundraising guidebook to help diversify chapters fundraising streams and give guidance for successful fundraising. The Task Team comprises SCRC members and SCRC chapter treasurers, who can identify the needs of each respective chapter.  In order to gain a wider scope of identifying the financial needs of chapters. The Team's role is also to indentify on which SCRC Chapters are interested in focusing.

Operations Task Team

The Operations Task Team's aim is to increase opportunities for SCRC Chapters to operate cohesively and efficiently. To realize this aim, the Operations Task Team has created the following goals to be considered for adoption by the SCRC and the associated chapters:
-  Create a neutral web-based site to share standard documents such as RFP’s, best practices, articles written by regional members, discussion boards, etc.
- Identify common procurement needs and list of preferred providers, for example; web site design, catering, printing, graphic design services. - Develop a shared speaker’s bureau.
- Unify the advocacy efforts of the chapters.
- Mutually procure common investments such as training, speakers, awards, programs.
- Align policies and promote each other’s efforts
- Share membership retention and recruitment practices.
- Facilitate long range planning to consolidate regional conferences into a Regional Greenbuild.
- Package our sponsorship programs to create better value for the sponsors.
